Boil Water

CodeRED and flyers are used to notify you of contaminated drinking water in your area. Boil Water notifications provide you with the areas affected, instructions for the safe consumption of water, and also alert you as to when the Boil Water advisory has been lifted.

During a Boil Water Advisory:

  • Do not consume or clean with water from the faucet unless you have first disinfected it.
  • Boiling water kills harmful bacteria and parasites and provides you with clean water to use for cooking, washing, and drinking.
  • To properly disinfect water, bring water to a full rolling boil for at least 1 minute before cooking or drinking to kill most infectious organisms (germs).
  • Bottled Water is the best option during a boil water advisory. When bottled water is available, it is a good alternative to boiling water. Other alternatives include treated or distilled water

Once an All Clear is issued:

  • Run all faucets for about 3 minutes or until water runs cool and clear
  • Flush automatic ice makers. Make 3 batches of ice cubes and discard all 3 batches
  • Follow instructions from your local utility company
